Welcome to Varanasi

In ancient times, Varanasi was known as Kashi, meaning ‘the splendid,’ as kashi is “the shining sun,” and indeed, the sun casts its light and shadows. Varanasi will become your go-to city when you reminisce about your trip to India; the senses and the soul of this place will leave an indelible mark.

YOUR GUIDED TOUR OF VARANASI

I can guide you through Varanasi, showing you all those places that will forever be etched in your heart. We’ll start very early, before the sun illuminates the city, to experience its slow awakening from a boat on the Ganges River . Afterward, we can enjoy a chai before visiting Varanasi’s most important temple: Vishwanath, the Golden Temple . There, we’ll see one of India’s twelve jyotirlingas , the natural lingams, and the domes covered in pure gold will leave you breathless.

We’ll take a walk along the Ghats so you can experience everything around us firsthand. The Ghats of Varanasi are something you have to feel; it’s a truly unforgettable experience.

We could visit the Monkey Temple, dedicated to the goddess Durga ; the monkeys jump freely around it. Actually, non-Hindus aren’t supposed to enter, but sometimes the rules in India are flexible. I’ll go with you, don’t worry. Just so you know, you can’t take photos there.

At dusk, the Puja in honor of Mother Ganga is celebrated daily at various ghats along the Ganges. The one at Dasaswamedh Ghat is spectacular; you’ll see more Indian tourists than visitors watching it from boats on the river. The Puja is something you absolutely shouldn’t miss.

If you want to feel the energy and reality of India, I would have to show you the cremations , as you have to see them to understand India . With the utmost respect, of course. In any case, my clients always have the final say on the sites they wish to visit; it will always be your decision whether to witness this important part of my religion.

Anyway… there are so many things to see and do in my city.

Besides taking you to eat at traditional restaurants, don’t think I’ll forget to take you shopping. Remember, I’m an Indian guide ;), and you can’t return from India without a sari in your suitcase; and don’t worry, I’ll advise you on haggling if you’d like.

We can also stroll around the campus of Hindu University in Varanasi , I can take you to an Indian classical music concert, or on a day trip to Sarnath , one of the four holy cities of Buddhism: the place where Buddha gave his first sermon after attaining enlightenment in Bodh Gaya. In short, whatever you prefer. See what other travelers have to say about my guided tours in Varanasi.

Not only Varanasi….

India is an incredible country. I’ve traveled all over it as a tour guide, and my own country never ceases to amaze me. If you’d like me to accompany you to other cities or regions, just ask. If I have the time, I’m sure we can work something out.
